Demand that Administration and the Board listen to students and BACK OFF OUR BOOKS!

<aside> 💡 Note! Loyola has provided no concrete plan for what they will do with the books removed from the facilities. It is imperative that we demand transparency and accountability. Students and faculty deserve to know!

Petition Update! (2/16/2024)

This March, Loyola’s senior administration reportedly plan to quietly push through a vote to demolish Sullivan Center and move all of the offices into Cudahy Library by the end of the spring semester. This means that they will be removing and discarding the 300 thousand books in the basement storage of Sullivan as well as at least one floor worth of Cudahy’s collection. In total, they plan to discard a minimum of half a million books.

Administration is starting to feel the pressure! Thank you to everyone who has been spreading the word! Administration has admitted that they have no concrete plan yet. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen, but the pressure is on! Keep sharing and advocating for our university resources!

“I’m a student; how can I help?”

  1. Spread the word! Administration is attempting to do this without informing students. The plan is to keep it quiet until it is too late. Talk to your fellow peers and your professors. Let everyone know what the Board is trying to do behind the backs of students and faculty!
  2. Submit questions for the upcoming Dean’s Council Meeting here! They will be passed along to faculty members who are attending and share our concerns for the library resources.
  3. Take this survey and share it with anyone you know! Post to social media, Facebook pages, tell your parents/guardians, share with anyone who would like to show their support for our students and faculty!
  4. Sign our petition! Names and other information will only be collected for quantitative purposes only. Only the number of signatures will be shared, no identifying information.
  5. Email President Reed and Senior Vice President Tom Kelly and tell them to ask the administration and Board to reconsider discarding such a massive amount of University resources.
  6. Read on! Below this list, you can find information about Loyola’s history of attempting to go behind the backs of students and faculty to discard books and reference materials, and how and why we came to learn about this newest attempt!
